Your hosts - Karin and Wilson

We have travelled a great deal and in the process stayed in a variety of places from the most humble to the most extraordinary. We have learned a great deal about what makes a great stay, and it is certainly more than the price that you pay for the room. We try our best to live by these ideals when hosting guests at St Marks. We certainly had never planned to be hosts ourselves but we both love old houses, and when we discovered this historic church 20 years ago it was hard to resist. When the children left home 3 years ago we renovated once again and began sharing it with the world. Prior to this our work life was very different. Karin worked worked in everything from bridal gown designer to social services and is the key driver for the St Marks business. Wilson works as a university lecturer in film and television, but has in the past been a TV producer, producing some of Australia's iconic programs such as Here's Humphrey, as well as working in the UK and NZ. We are friendly, tolerant and accustomed to mingling with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Everyone is welcome at St Marks.

The Accomodation

We are offering a ground floor apartment within the church that comprises of two bedrooms, a huge lounge/dining/kitchen area and private bathroom with separate bath and a separate toilet. The accommodation is unique with original stained glass windows and 100 year-old Baltic pine floors. The Church has been recently renovated whilst retaining its harmonious and unique atmosphere. Enjoy your own downstairs, privately accessed section of the Church that is ideally situated just off Magill Road, well known for its antique and designer shops. We are also a seven-minute drive from Penfold’s Magill Estate home of the famous Grange wine and Adelaide’s City Centre. The church is only few minutes away from the cosmopolitan dining and shopping areas of the ‘The Parade’, Norwood. The Church offers a wonderful restful and meditative atmosphere if you are looking for a peaceful holiday break. If you are in South Australia for business, or to tour the fabulous beaches and wine districts, we are on hand to assist or help in any way.

Karin and Wilson are exceptional and generous hosts. Their attention to detail is second to none, their communication is fast, clear and concise, Karin's introduction to the apartment provided its history as a working church, a fascinating backdrop to our daily lives while we stayed there. Information about the area and how to get around is on hand in the apartment, and Karin provides local shortcut tips that save a great deal of time. Wilson's DVD collection is as extensive as it is world class, and his listing with synopsis is just genius. We saw several memorable movies that we'd never have watched without his introduction. The apartment itself is spacious and grand and carefully decorated, just the ambiance to make your stay feel very special. The bedding is just scrumptious. My daughter described her bed like a marshmallow (that said, the mattresses are very supportive), and the linen is just to die for while the coffee produced by the De'Longhi expresso machine is just the thing to entice one back up into the day. With the delicious fresh local produce and wines readily available, we produced gourmet meals in the comfort of what seemed like our own home during our sojourn. All the little touches, like chocolates here and there and the decanter of scrumptious port make St. Marks Church a memorable stay. Congratulations Karin and Wilson. Your awards are clearly well earned and deserved. Margo (Xmas 2014)
